Job Description
This position is based in Tokyo and reports to the APAC General Counsel, who reports to the Deputy General Counsel (Global).
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise on legal issues related to contracts, commercial matters, government, and regulatory laws
- Review and negotiate commercial agreements with internal and external stakeholders
- Manage disputes involving customers, vendors, or employment-related issues
- Advise management and HR on employment law matters
- Guide business units on legal and regulatory requirements
- Respond to ad-hoc legal inquiries and assess risks to provide solutions
- Collaborate with internal legal teams and coordinate with external counsel
- Work with compliance and ethics teams to establish standards and best practices
- Investigate ethical violations with internal audit and HR, implement corrective actions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education
- Law degree from a recognized university in Japan
- Minimum 5 years of legal experience (in-house or law firm preferred)
- In-depth knowledge of Japanese law (IT experience not mandatory)
- Foreign lawyers welcome
- Japanese attorney qualification not required
Required Skills
- Fluency in English and Japanese (N1 level)
- Broad understanding of Japanese corporate law, including contracts and regulatory compliance
- Knowledge of employment law is a plus
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills
- Ability to gain client trust quickly
- Creative and practical problem-solving abilities
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Responsive to internal and external client needs

Compensation
- JPY 10,000,000 – JPY 20,000,000 per year
